Who Is China Live

China Live is an interactive culinary and cultural destination in the heart of San Francisco’s Chinatown, offering an in-depth exploration of Greater Chinese gastronomy. The operation is a huge, multi-faceted experience that people often refer to as the Chinese version of Mario Batali’s ‘Eataly’ in NYC. It’s a bastion of food, fun and culture that San Franciscans have wholeheartedly embraced. China Live is more than just a restaurant or grocery store. It features a serious array of offerings that you can spend hours exploring.

Here’s what you’ll find:
shop
- Restaurant
The Market Restaurant on the first floor features a seasonal menu that changes every day to reflect the available ingredients and whims of the chefs. The main dining area features chairs and tables that were all handcrafted in China. Grab a seat at the bar to get a close-up view of the chefs preparing savory dishes.

- 888 Banquet and Event Space
China Live utilizes a banquet and event space for guests who would like to host a party. The space can accommodate anywhere from 10 to 825 people.

- Marketplace
The retail area of China Live is truly something to behold. It’s a majestic collection of unique flavors and experiences that you can take back to your own home. You can find spices, teas, condiments, produce, cookware and cutlery – all of the highest quality. If you’re just here to browse, ask a guide to help you explore and learn more about the products and Chinese cooking.

What does the client want?

Restaurateur George Chen says,

"WE NEED TO COME OUT WITH A BANG!"

"I think this is the perfect place to kind of bridge the cultures across the oceans and the past to the present and future," Chen said. The cuisine itself is authentic Chinese. There’s even a traditional ceramic cauldron that dates back 1,000 years. Chen believes it’s the only one in the U.S.

Website Design & Development

web after

UX / UI Design

The website design was conceptualized and created shortly after the brand identity was refreshed. CHINA LIVE has three main features; the dine-in restaurant, the café/bar and the ‘888’ event space. In an effort to establish brand unity, I designed their web page to host all three features in one location. This was achieved utilizing:

  • Adobe Illustrator
  • Adobe Photoshop
  • Adobe XD

Frontend Development

Even though the website was designed without the use of Bootstrap templates, the convenience of coding with Bootstrap was utilized. I explored coding avenues using almost all components of Bootstrap, and this allowed the final website to mirror the original design as closely as possible. I hope you enjoy my China Live restaurant!
